NYCOMPS core facility distributes expression clones, protocols and data that enable the distributed group x-ray crystallographers to grow and purify membrane protein at production scale for crystallization experiments. Purified proteins are set up in crystallization experiment using the Mosquito robots in vapor diffusion experiments (or LCP) or under oil using the HWI service. The crystallization and diffraction optimization of membrane protein crystals is a complex process, and as yet no hard and fast rules have emerged. Crystals that are ready for diffraction analysis are often exposed to x-rays at the NYSBC beamilnes at the NSLS.
